Soft Nanosciences

Soap Opera

The program Soft Nanosciences focuses on complex micro-nano-systems whose self-organization capabilities, fluctuating dynamics, and active properties, have a great potential for innovation in materials science and engineering.

The Soft Nanosciences program provides a broad interdisciplinary expertise in physics, mechanics, chemistry, and surfaces science, as well as experimental skills with top-equipment for the characterization of soft nanostructures, and training on the most recent numerical tools. Mastering simultaneously the fundamentals of statistical physics and the last numerical and experimental advances is a step forward to face current societal challenges such as new energies, bio-inspired processes, smart materials and macro-molecules for new medical challenges. The program will prepare you as well to a career in fundamental research or R&D departments of industries.

The track is accessible to students having a Bachelor in physics, physico-chemistry, materials science, mechanical of chemical engineering. For direct admission in second year see admission requirements. It also welcomes students selected in the Graduate School program Soft Nano.

The first year M1 Soft Matter and Biophysics provides a broad basic scientific background in physics. In the second year M2 Soft Nanosciences, the advanced program in statistical mechanics, complex fluids and materials is complemented by an experimental training in the nano-facilities of the Grenoble area. A choice of elective courses covering various fields such as machine learning,  nanomechanics, nano-pores and membranes technologies, computational nano-materials, nano-structures for energy, allows students to focus in depth into their preferred direction. The second semester is devoted to the Master thesis realized during a full time research internship of 5 months minimum from February to June, in a research institute, academic or industrial.
