Graduate School Soft Nano
The Graduate School Soft-Nano gathers 15 research labs and 6 master programs in the fields of soft matter, biophysics, chemistry and applied mechanics, to set up an innovative research-driven curriculum.
The program builds on the Master's listed on the right column,  where you should be enrolled first. In addition  to the Master's curricula, the Graduate School program offers a selective training of excellence through research. Our program covers the wide spectrum of soft nanosciences (for a general description, see here). Top-level students engage in PhD-track master studies with the strong and continuous support of research teams along the following lines:
•    Every master student belongs to a laboratory and performs a 2-year long research work under the guidance of a research director.
•    Each student is supervised by a director of studies and follows tutoring activities
•    International positioning: student admission in research teams is achieved through an international recruitment forum at the Bachelor's level, all courses are in English, students can study abroad through double-degree programs, their participation to the European ESONN school is included in the master curriculum
•    PhD students benefit of an additional teaching mission ; they contribute to the networking of the program.


Student enter the Graduate School in the 1st year of the master level after selection by the academic coordinators and the research teams affiliated to the thematic program. See Admission.

They follow the compulsory courses of one of the six master programs Nanobiotechnologies, Nanochemistry, Soft Nanosciences, Nanomedecine, Environmental Fluid Mechanics, Polymers for Advanced Technologies (*).
In parallel they undertake their research project related to soft and complex matter at the nanoscale in their hosting team,  and validate the Graduate School modules:
Research Methodology 6 ECTS, first year 1st semester
Graduate School Soft Nano internship 12 ECTS, first year 2nd semester
European School in Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies part B, 2nd year first semester.

They obtain a master degree in the mention Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies, Chemistry, or Mechanics, in one of the above 6 specialties.  They can pursue in PhD in the Doctoral School of PhysicsChemistry and Life Sciences, or IMEP2 (Industrial, Materials, Mechanics, and Process Engineering) of the UGA, or they can choose to quite the Graduate School at the level of the Master and pursue a professional life and/or a PhD in another university or abroad.

 Training through and for research

The training through research performed under the supervision of a professor covers all aspects of leading a project. In the Research Methodology course of the 1st year (6 credits), students are trained to the various aspects of writing a research proposal. In the Graduate School Soft Nano Internship (12 ECTS) and the Master Thesis (30 ECTS) they are further trained to the scientific writing and defense of their project implementation, results, and perspectives. Thanks to their 2-years research experience, they may have the opportunity to write a scientific article, and present their results in a workshop of specialists of the field.

Taking part to the European School of Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies, students meet international professors, PhD students, junior scientists. In addition to being trained in the leading-edge research on nanostructures, nano-objects and nano-machines, they present a poster on their master research activity and get an opportunity to start international professional networking in their domain.

The Grad School Soft Nano thus provides students with the opportunity to be early immersed in a highly demanding scientific environment where the innovation of the future is in gestation. It also gives students a first professional experience. As members of a laboratory or research institute, students take a full part to the life of the lab according to their time of presence, have access to high-tech equipments after having received appropriate training, comply with safety regulations, and assume their share of collective tasks. They also follow the scientific seminars, getting opportunities to make contacts for their future career.

During their research internship students receive a stipend whose amount is set by the French law.
