Nano-structuration of surfaces by proteins via self-organization

for Volatile Organic Compound detection
The goal of this project is to design a self-organizing protein nano-structure capable of selectively trapping volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and then allowing their identification through an optoelectronic nose.

Protein Scaffold
 For this purpose, we propose to use a self-assembled protein backbone at the nanoscale, to form an organized layer of less than 10 nanometers thickness with a hexagonal and porous pattern. This architecture is particularly interesting for VOC capture, due to its large specific surface area. In addition, to improve selectivity, the protein matrix will be genetically modified to present VOC-specific peptide probe sequences inside the pores.
